Doesn’t Christmas and New Year’s Eve seem like a long time ago? All that build-up and then an explosion of wrapping paper and toys. All those big meals and seasonal treats. All those decorations to hung on the tree and the veranda, placed on the kitchen table and the windowsills. And now it is over and we are moving forward into 2026, already more than half-way through January. I did find a bunch of lights and gnomes that had escaped the post-Christmas clean-up, hiding amongst photo frames and knick-knacks.
What will 2026 hold?

Let’s think positive now. And just for now, let’s ignore the state of the world at large and think about our smaller, individual worlds.
I am hoping for:
Lots of interesting work with great clients, new and old
Graphic design work, illustration work, and live event illustration work, preferably for organisations that align with my values and interests: environmental issues, mental health and well-being, creativity, and connection.
Also, books. I would love to illustrate books. In February I am going to send my portfolio to a bunch of publishers.
I also want to realise a dream I have had for years: illustrating and producing a calendar.
Health and fitness
Of course. Who doesn’t have that on their list of goals or resolutions? I want to be stronger and have better stamina. Beefcake status is not really on my wish-list… it would be an interesting change though!
Blooming relationships with family and friends
I recently heard Brene Brown interview Priya Parker, author of The Art of Gathering: How We Meet and Why It Matters. Her book looks at what makes some events special and offers guidelines for creating events that are meaningful and transformative experiences, whether it’s a dinner with friends or a business meeting.
For years it has felt like a lot of people I know are lonely but too busy to spend time together. Maybe the problem is that the time we spend together lacks real purpose?
The Art of Gathering is now on my reading list and I am inspired to organise and take part in more meaningful, intentional gatherings this year. More connection!
Here are my illustrated notes of the podcast.

More time outdoors
More long walks, more picnic dinners, more horse-rides, more camping, more sitting by a fire in the garden, more exploring, more forests, more fields, more beaches. Less time spent staring at a screen and more time in the world right here, around me.
What are you hoping for, dreaming of, striving towards?
