Ink drawings of women in Regency-style clothes

Lately, my sketchbooks have been filled with men and women dressed in Regency clothes. I know why: it started when I was listening to an audio book of Emma, by Jane Austen. I’ve read it before, but long enough ago that I had forgotten all the twists and turns, so it was 17 hours of real delight. I’ve now moved on to Mansfield Park.

Listening to a book and sketching is a bit similar to what I do as a graphic recorder – listening to meetings and conferences and visualising what I hear. The difference is that there is no pressure to get it finished by the end of a 45 minute conference sessions, and the possibility to draw folk in historical dress! Fun.

When Inktober came around… you know about Inktober, don’t you? It’s a monthly challenge, every year in October, that encourages people to create ink drawings in response to daily prompts.

So, when Inktober came around, I decided to keep to the Jane Austen-era theme going. Here are a few of my favourites so far. All done with blue ink, a brush or a quill, and my sketchbook.

Old-fashioned drawing: blue ink, brushes, sketchbook

Do you want custom-made ink drawings?

These drawings were a personal project, but, of course, I do custom commissions.

Perhaps you’re organising an exhibition?

You’re publishing a book?

You’re getting married and want portraits of your partner and yourself in historical dress? (That would be fun!)

Don’t hesitate to get in touch.
