I don’t know why it took me so long to figure out that, as an illustrator, I could make my own hand-drawn visual assets to use on my website and in other marketing products. I was looking at Katie Chappall’s website and thinking how fun and engaging it was, when something clicked: I offer hand-drawn illustrations. I can create hand-drawn illustrations for my website.
The shoe-maker’s children go barefoot. I worked in marketing for years, creating graphic profiles and visual assets for others, yet my own website felt dry and boring.

This colourful bunting replaced some very boring black dividing lines. The transformative effect was so big that I sat down to draw a whole bunch of little pictures and decorative flourishes.

This illustration of a laptop sending an email took my contact page from a boring, bare, neglected corner to a delightful and appealing call to action.
The pen and letter illustrations are going to go on my newsletter sign-up promotion.

I am not quite sure how I will use these characters yet, but they were fun to do and I am sure they will help add personality somewhere. Perhaps I will arrange them in a row for a header or a divider.
You know how

I think I will use this one a lot. One of the dilemmas I face is that, as a native English-speaker living in Sweden, I struggle to tailor my marketing to my target group – companies who work in English in Sweden. Should I communicate with them in English or Swedish? My Swedish, though fluent, is not perfect, and if I use English I need to explain that I can speak Swedish too. Now I can plop this little banner onto my website, printed materials and social media content and stop explaining myself.

And these will help me make it clear what I do: graphic recording both online for the whole world, and in-person in Northern Europe. I may change that to say “Skåne” or “Sweden” as I would only travel further afield for a really good event.
And last but not least, I re-did my “what is graphic recording?” video with my new, gorgeous colour scheme.
Would you like some lovely hand-drawn visual assets to make your website livelier and your marketing easier? Let me know!
